About Us

Quilting on the Mira started as a retirement business for me after following my husband John around during his career in the Armed Forces. John, being from Cape Breton, naturally wanted to move home after his retirement.
That was my time to do something I have always wanted to do. In July of 2003 I received my business license for Quilting On The Mira. Now I was committed. I purchased a long-arm quilting machine, used a two bedroom apartment over our garage and started my company. The name seemed appropriate since the view I had was just that: the Mira River.
It wasn't long before I started teaching a few classes, became a dealer for the Pfaff line of sewing machines and started retailing notions and material. In November of 2004 I purchased a small building and moved Quilting On The Mira to Sydney: our new location at 89 Disco Street.
People have asked me why I didn't change the name to reflect my move , are you kidding me , you should follow me around for a day, I don't have  time and besides I really like the name.  Each day brings new ideas as our business evolves. We provide a warm, friendly atmosphere for people to learn new techniques, meet new friends and be encouraged as they develop their skills.
Stop by and visit us; we'd love to see you!
Yours Truly,
